Rules of the Relay Race

EVALUATION, CATEGORIES

In the relay race, the mixed teams are being evaluated among men. Relay teams are being evaluated together regardless of the number of runners in the team. The pairs are being evaluated in male, female and mixed category.

RELAY EXCHANGE ZONES

The relay must be done at the designated relay point within the relay exchange zone by handing over the timing chip/plug. In all cases, this timing chip/plug should be plugged in the touchpoint box first in order to record the team member’s time. The relay can happen only after this. The timing chip must be handed over to the next runner.

IN CASE OF INJURY

For every team, only in case of an injury, there is the option to relay before the relay points (the team relays its previous member before the next official relay point). In this case, the next team member must get to the required relay point individually and without disturbing other participants. The relayed member of the team must leave the relay point without disturbing other participants. Every relay outside the ordinary must be reported to the leader of the relay exchange zone.

Individual runners can only be a member of one team. A member of a team cannot also be a member of another team.

  • In the case of lost timing chip/plug, the runner’s balance in the BSI database will be deducted by 30 EUR.
  • Plugs will be collected by the staff upon arriving at the finish in Siófok. Those giving up the race for good will be able to drop it off at the daily finish. There is an option to use your own chip but kindly notify us about this when you pick up your race package at the latest.
  • It is recommended to wear the small timing chip/plug on the finger. When picking up your race packet you will have a chance to try it, and our staff at the race center can also help you with this. Resetting the plug back to zero will happen when you obtain your race packet.
  • On day 1, everybody’s start time will be the same, but in the following days, runners will be able to start off their time at the start gate by plugging in the touchpoint boxes. There will be touchpoint boxes along the course at the relay exchange zones.
  • Relay members will need to plug in the touchpoint box when arriving at the relay exchange zone, then exchange by handing over the plug.
  • Individuals and runners in pairs will find their touchpoint box before their refreshment table–they need to plug in it too at every relay exchange zone.
  • The plug will record the time by plugging in the touchpoint boxes. Wait for the sound and light effect (approx. 1 second) and then running can be continued.
  • Each day after the finish, we will share the daily and overall race results as well at https://bsieredmenylista.hu/spuri-balaton-szupermaraton-2020/. We will also feature the names of those who gave up the race but without ranking.

Organization of the race

The course is marked on the cycle path around Lake Balaton and – especially on the southern shore – on (usually bicycle-friendly) roads with little traffic. When it is necessary because of the course, (at railway level crossings and when you have to cross Road 71) there will be race marshals or policemen to direct traffic. Otherwise, entrants should try to run responsibly and they have to comply with the rules of the Highway Code and pay attention to others. If you need further information about Hungarian traffic laws please talk to our staff in the race center.
Any team member can run any of the sections but they can only hand off the relay race number to the next runner in the relay exchange areas.
There will be changing rooms and refreshment points at relay exchange stations for team members.
There will be refreshment stations on the course between relay exchange stations, usually 2 stations, or 1 in case of shorter sections, but team members can also hand over individual refreshments to the running member of the team at refreshment stations.
We can only accept the registration of those 2-person relay teams and 3-4 person relay teams who can take the team members to the relay exchange points themselves!
Runners are recommended to take their mobile phones with them on the course.

Participants are only permitted to run with someone on a bike or on roller-skates from the 1st hydration station each day. Anyone who tries to do it earlier can get a 10-minute time penalty.
Any commercial or promotional activity should be permitted by BSI in advance, in a manner determined by BSI.
BSI reserves the right to limit the number of participants and close registration at any time.
BSI reserves the right to change the route and the date of the event.
